The Hobbit: Discovering Grace and Providence in Bilbo’s Adventures

While we are all spending more time at home, we thought it would be fun to explore the faith through JRR Tolkien’s the Hobbit!  Considering the role of grace and providence in the Hobbit will allow us to also discover God’s grace and providence in our own lives, even in, or perhaps especially in, these uncertain times.  This program, from Catholic Courses, is structured with a half hour video lecture and a half hour of discussion via Zoom. Class will be offered at 10 am on Thursdays (starting May 28), with the option of adding a Wednesday evening option if there is interest (starting May 27).   Although it is not necessary to read the Hobbit (or watch the movies, rated PG-13), doing so may give greater insight in the course. Please register here, so we can share the Zoom information with you! https://form.jotform.com/201346558231956

  1. Bilbo’s Pilgrimage
  2. An Unexpected Parting
  3. Trusting in “Luck”
  4. Goblins and Gollum
  5. Bilbo Comes of Age
  6. The Return of the King

St. Bartholomew Coloring Book

In order to help out youth (and those young at heart) to remain connected to our parish home, the church, through this time of distancing, we have put together a coloring book of our stained glass (there will be a new page each week!).

We would love it if you would send a pic of your colored windows (or you holding your colored windows) to Jen Foster for us to share on Facebook and to hang in the rectory for Fr. Derek to enjoy! Print the pages here!

Celebrating May, the Month of Mary

May is the month dedicated to Our Mother Mary.  Usually we have Mary focused crafts at Community Sunday, the crowning of Mary on Mother’s day and daily rosary (all year).  Although we are unlikely to resume parish gatherings this month, we can still be connected in celebrating May as the Month of Mary.  Please download this resource book for celebrating the Month of Mary at home!  There are prayers, links to videos and articles, children’s activities, lectio divina, music links and more!  Every age group should be able to find something.  With all of our time at home, this is the perfect time to make devotion to Mary a part of our every day lives.  Contact Jen if you have any questions about the resource book.
