A Note From Fr. Derek

A Note From Fr. Derek

Dear Friends,

In last week’s Gospel, Jesus calls upon those who would be his disciples to take up their cross and follow him. We should bear in mind that, in these days, many have had crosses imposed upon them by recent disasters, and you may be looking for ways to assist them in carrying their crosses. I wanted to offer you some options, since we are not, at this time, taking up collections in our ordinary manner:

CRS in Lebanon:  Special Request for Support:

On August 4th a devastating chemical explosion in Beirut, Lebanon killed at least 170 people, wounded 6,000 and     displaced hundreds of thousands of people.  Many major hospitals are damaged and overwhelmed with people suffering from COVID-19. Catholic Relief Services is working closely with Caritas Lebanon and other faith-based partners in coordinating desperately needed relief efforts. Donations can be made at this website:  https://support.crs.org/donate/beirut-explosion.

Last week, Hurricane Laura made landfall in Cameron Parish, LA as a strong category 4 hurricane, causing great       damage, in particular, in southwestern Louisiana and southeastern Texas. Many of our brothers and sisters in those areas are in need of our help.

Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana operates in the Diocese of Lake Charles and donations can be made at their website at https://www.catholiccharitiesswla.com.  The button to donate is at the bottom of the page. **Please note that default “frequency” of donation is monthly, so if you want to make only a one-time gift, you will need to change that.** Alternatively, a check could be mailed to Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana, 1225 Second Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601.

Catholic Charities of Southeastern Texas is in the Diocese of Beaumont and donations can be made at their website at http://www.catholiccharitiesbmt.org. The donate button is at the top of the page, and when you are donating you have the ability to designate your gift for a specific cause, such as disaster relief.  Alternatively, a check can be sent to Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, 2780 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont, TX 77703.
