Last weekend, in my homily, I made reference to the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, works that are fundamental in our Catholic Tradition. It is important to remember that the Catholic tradition is one that recognizes that faith alone (sola fide) is not enough but that our faith must be concretized in good works. I just wanted to take a little space in this week’s bulletin to remind you of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
Corporal Works of Mercy: Feed the Hungry, Give Drink to the Thirsty, Shelter the Homeless, Visit the Sick, Visit the Prisoners, Bury the Dead, Give Alms to the Poor.
Spiritual Works of Mercy: Counseling the Doubtful, Instructing the Ignorant, Admonishing the Sinner, Comforting the Sorrowful, Forgiving Injuries, Bearing Wrongs Patiently and Praying for the Living and the Dead.
