This week we welcome another seminarian from Pope St. John XXIII Seminary to our parish. James O’Rourke, a second theologian, will be with us at St. Bart’s for his pastoral assignment. He is a second-year theologian. Usually the seminarians in this year come to their assignments on Tuesdays and their pastoral work is focused primarily on the sick, the homebound and those in long-term care situations. This is why many of you did not have the chance to meet Brannon Lepak last year. Jim comes to us with a different background. He has served the Diocese of Albany for the past eight years as a permanent deacon and has now discerned that God is calling him to serve as a priest. Jim has a lot of experience in the pastoral work that many of his classmates will be doing this year, so we are still trying to work out exactly what he will be doing this year. There is a chance, however, that you might see him from time to time on the weekends. I wanted to make sure you were aware of his presence here. Please keep all of the seminarians, as well as all those discerning priestly and religious vocations in your prayers.
