You may have noticed, last weekend, a little bit of work going on over in the peace garden. I want to share with you a little bit about that. I’m grateful to Eddie Flanagan, a member of our parish, the youth choir and an altar server, who is doing an Eagle Scout project to benefit our parish. Along with the help of his fellow scouts in Troop 13, Eddie is making a path in the peace garden to connect the parking lot to the center of the garden. He is also coordinating the building of a new housing for the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Prior to this the only access to that point was the path coming from the sidewalks. Hopefully this project will encourage more people to spend some time in prayer in the garden.
I would like, also, to say a word to you about our new organ. I hope that you have enjoyed hearing it being played at the Masses. To my admittedly untrained ear it sounds great. Last spring, when we first became aware of the need for a new organ I had mentioned a possible fund raising campaign for the cost of the organ. I had put this off because a few people had spoken to me about making donations. I am happy to report that, through the generosity of a number of our parishioners, we have covered most of the cost of the organ. I am, at this writing, still in conversation with a couple of people and if the whole cost isn’t covered by then, what remains will be small enough that we don’t need to do a campaign. This is good news as we will be soon beginning our Grand Annual Campaign for the parish and it would not be good to be doing two campaigns at once. Thank you very much to those who have offered to help with the funding of our new organ! Our new organ will be blessed at the 11:30 Mass on September 22nd, when we have both choirs present just prior to the parish picnic.
