Sounding Retreat

As you read this, I’m preparing to bring my annual spiritual retreat to a close on Monday morning. The Church’s Canon Law requires priests to make an annual spiritual retreat, to take some time away from their ministry to be apart with the Lord Jesus and allow him to minister to them in a special way. The Church shows a particular wisdom in requiring this as it is important for all of us to set aside some time to just be present to Jesus and to allow him to be present to him. Please know that you all will be (have been – by the time you read this) in my prayers during this time with the Lord.

It is important for each of us to “sound retreat” in our lives at certain times, even if it is for just a few moments each day. To find a few minutes or more where we can be present completely to God and be aware of the ways in which he makes himself present to us. There are so many things that we get caught up in throughout the day, that it is easy for us to become lost in them. Jesus greatly desires that we allow him to find us, that we may find him.
