As I write this column, I find myself, again this year, in Omaha, Nebraska. This is probably my ninth trip out to Omaha. I am currently assisting with a program run by the Institute for Priestly Formation (www.priestlyformation.org) which is designed for seminarians. They come out here for nine weeks for various courses to supplement their seminary training. I am currently helping to teach a course on prayer and discernment that will prepare the seminarians for an eight-day, silent, directed retreat. This is a retreat that is conducted in silence during which the retreatant meets with a director once each day to hear what is happening in the retreatant’s prayer and to offer suggestions for the following day’s prayer.
I will be returning to Needham on Friday, but the seminarians will be remaining for the summer. Please keep them in your prayers, and please visit the website above to find out more about this program as well as the other programs that the Institute for Priestly Formation offers.
