Encountering God in Prayer
Lent is on the horizon and it is time for us to start thinking about what we are going to do for Lent. We generally consider “giving something up” during this season, which is a form of fasting. In addition to fasting, the Church encourages us to focus ourselves on prayer and almsgiving (acts of charity). Beginning the Monday before Ash Wednesday, Fr. Derek will be offering a three-part series on prayer, introducing participants to a few different styles of entering into prayer so as to encounter God more fully. The meetings will take place from 7:00 to 8:15 and will include a brief teaching in Ward Hall, an opportunity to go into the church for some time of prayer, and then an opportunity to share the graces of our prayer time. On Monday, March 4th, we will look a bit at the practice of Lectio Divina, or sacred reading. On Monday, March 18th, we will speak about the dynamics of Relational Prayer. On Monday, April 1st, we will introduce the topic of the Examen Prayer. All are invited to come and use this as an opportunity to seek a greater relationship with Jesus this Lent.
