The Bells of St. Bart’s

You may have noticed that the bells here have been silent lately. I noticed this when I started Mass late a couple of times since I usually wait for the bells to signal me it is time to start. No, it’s not that we are in mourning. No, it’s not that we’re trying to prevent any angels from getting their wings! The speakers on the top of the church have met their match and so have been silenced. At Christmas time I could hear some static as the music was playing, and that, apparently, was the speakers telling us it was time for them to retire. New speakers are on their way and should be in place (weather permitting) in a few weeks.

I also want to update you on the property signs. This has been a long process since I’ve been here, but the process is hopefully drawing to a close. In recent weeks we have been working on getting a  permit from the town, which should be happening by the time this bulletin goes to print. The sign company estimates that, again – weather permitting, the signs would be in place towards the end of March. These signs include a replacement for the sign just outside the church building, a sign on Greendale Avenue which would indicate the parking lot for both St. Bartholomew and St. Sebastian’s, a sign for the parish offices and a new sign at the corner of Greendale and Great Plain Avenues. Let’s pray for good weather so that these projects might be done in due time. By the way….you may have noticed that the boards of that sign on the corner were replace some time ago through the generosity and craftsmanship of one of our own. It would be nice of you to offer up a prayer for him.
