During the past two weeks I’ve mentioned in my column that October is observed as the Month of the Rosary, as well as Pro-Life Month. I mentioned in passing, in my homily last weekend, that October, in the wider society, is also observed as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is important for people who are in abusive relationships to be aware that it is not necessary for them to be subjected to abuse, and that there is help for them. If you, or someone you know, is in an abusive relationship, I would encourage you to speak to someone about this to someone you trust. A clergy person can be of assistance. In addition to the police there is information available at www.needhamma.gov/dvac, as well as resources, links and hotlines including DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended) based in Quincy (617-471-1234, 24 hours or dovema.org).
