“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…” It is with these words that our second reading begins this Sunday. In writing to the Church at Ephesus, St. Paul begins by blessing God. This might seem a bit strange to us. We often think of a blessing as something God gives to us. We ask a priest to bless our Rosary, our cross, our very selves. How does a mere human being bless God??? Well the word bless also means to call holy, to praise, to exalt, etc. As brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ and sons and daughters of God the Father, we are always called to bless God and to make holy his Name. The words that we say, and the things that we do, when done according to God’s will and his Holy Law, bless God and show to the world that we exalt the Father above all other things. In the reading today, Paul offers blessing, praise to God….how will you do that today?
