Stewardship: A Way of Life

Stewardship: A Way of Life

July 4th   INDEPENDENCE DAY

All over the world people are leaving everything that is held dear, everything that is sacred to them, everything and most everyone that matters to their way of life.  Why?  Peace—Safety—Independence. This day means so much more than just hotdogs and fireworks. However, those things really matter today and as they should thanks to the many who have founded our country and the many who have given their lives so that this day could be just what it is.

When you live with a pleasure and comfort most of your life, you rarely think about anything that could change it. “LIFE IS GOOD” the tee shirt shouts. And so it is for most of us. And because it is, we should never take for granted the many blessed gifts that we have on this day. Freedom is earned. Freedom needs to be valued and not forgotten. Freedom is a work in progress and one that needs the attention of all of its citizens. Freedom requires thankfulness.

Thankfulness requires awareness and action. We have a THANKSGIVING day holiday. But thankfulness is never a once in a while way of life. We Christians know and accept God in our way of life. We know and accept that all gifts come through Him. But how do we thank Him appropriately?

“BLESSED BE THE NAME OF GOD FOREVER AND EVER, FOR WISDOM AND POWER ARE HIS. (Dn 2:20)  WHAT RETURN CAN WE MAKE TO GOD EXCEPT OUR PRAYER OF GRATEFUL PRAISE? THOUGH HE NEEDS NOTHING, HE REJOICES IN THIS GIFT OF OUR LOVE.” (1 Chronicles 29:10-13)

Give love this day.  Receive love this day. Be thankful. Be careful. Enjoy. Be one with all of those who surround us. Show the world the joy of independence. But never let us be arrogant with this gift that we have received.  Pray for those who have never known or those who have had it taken away.  Mustard     relish   or   ketchup     with or without onions——–the choice is yours!
